Bed Bugs Identification & Life Cycle
Bed bugs are wingless, oval-shaped insects measuring approximately 5–6mm as adults. They are rusty brown in colour and turn a deeper reddish-brown after feeding on blood. Adult bed bugs can live for up to six months at room temperatures and significantly longer in cooler conditions.
- Females lay approximately 2–3 eggs per day throughout their lifespan.
- Eggs are cream-coloured, around 1mm long, and hatch in about 10 days.
- Newly hatched bed bugs are called nymphs.
- Nymphs are paler in colour and measure 1–4mm.
- They mature through multiple stages before becoming adults.
